South Gippsland is a beautiful part of the world and we aim to run an ecologically sustainable business, minimising our environmental footprint in everything we do here.
Tindoona Cottages are powered with 4.5Kw grid-connected solar electricity and we dream of going "off-grid" in the future. We use rainwater tanks to provide fresh chemical-free drinking water. There is normally plenty, but during the dry summer months you can help by using water efficiently.
The Environment Local wildlife visit our property and we make them feel welcome by minimising use of pesticides and nasty chemicals on the gardens. Same inside the cottages - all cleaning products are environmentally friendly. We subscribe to SoapAid, who recycle partially used soaps and provide it to remote communities and those who don’t have ready access to good sanitation, and we buy toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap: It’s all recycled (no trees are harmed in wiping your bum!) and 50% of all profits go to charities to improve sanitation in 3rd world countries.
Waste & Rubbish We wish we could put a stop to rubbish and waste! For now we buy goods in bulk and select products that use the least amount of packaging and create the least waste. We sort all rubbish to reduce landfill and appreciate your help in placing rubbish into the correct bins (Waste, Recycling & Compost). All compost goes back into our vegetable garden (or via the chooks of course...!) each season.
Recycling Where possible we recycle and re-use. All paper, glass and plastic is taken to the local recycling centre here in Foster. All organic material goes into our compost bin or via the chooks!
